"The 5th China-Europe Cooperation and Development Forum on Traditional Chinese Medicine" and "Renhe Jingcheng - The 4th Qilu Overseas Traditional Chinese Medicine Academic Symposium" Successfully Held at Chatsworth House

As the golden wind brings refreshing breezes and elites gather, the "5th China-Europe Cooperation and Development Forum on Traditional Chinese Medicine" and the "Renhe Jingcheng - The 4th Qilu Overseas Traditional Chinese Medicine Academic Symposium" were successfully held at Chatsworth House in the UK on August 25, 2024. This event was co-hosted by the China-UK Traditional Chinese Medicine Center, Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Overseas Alumni Association, and Anhui Province Traditional Chinese Medicine Association. It was jointly organized by the UK Lan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Qilu Overseas Traditional Chinese Medicine Professional Committee, with additional support from the UK Association of Chinese Medicine Practitioners, the UK Dan Huang Chinese Medicine Academy, Xinglin Pujie International Chinese Medicine Cultural Exchange (Beijing) Center, Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the International Modern Tongue Diagnosis Society, the UK College of Chinese Medicine, and the European Alumni Association of Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The summit focused on promoting the spirit of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) characterized by "benevolence, harmony, precision, and sincerity," and aimed to spread Confucian medical culture. The event gathered 150 TCM experts from countries including China, the United States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and Germany to discuss the latest academic achievements and experiences in various areas such as TCM diagnostics, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and clinical practice and research.

Guest Speeches and Celebrity Congratulations

At the beginning of the conference, Professor Shulan Tang, Chairman of the China-UK Traditional Chinese Medicine Center and Dean of the UK Lan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Professor Beinan Liu, President of the Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Overseas Alumni Association and Vice President of the UK Association of Chinese Medicine Practitioners, delivered enthusiastic opening speeches, warmly welcoming experts, professors, overseas alumni, and guests from around the world. Shuhua Gu, President of the Changzhou Menghe Medical School Inheritance Association, expressed high expectations and best wishes for the conference. Guangji Zhang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, pointed out in his speech that promoting the internationalization of TCM requires essential Sino-foreign exchanges and cooperation, and that this conference serves as a vital bridge for TCM cultural promotion and development.

Yali Sun, Deputy Secretary-General of the China National Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, highly praised the conference. Paul Batersby, Chairman of the UK Physiotherapy Acupuncture Association, emphasized the importance of exchanges between Chinese and British acupuncture experts and commended the positive significance of this conference in promoting international TCM cooperation. The opening ceremony concluded with Professor Beinan Liu reading a congratulatory letter from Li Yu of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, and Haiyan Mao, Deputy Secretary-General of the UK Association of Chinese Medicine Practitioners, reading a congratulatory letter from Kejian Li, President of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Academic Exchange - Diverse and Exciting

The conference featured distinguished TCM scholars and experts from around the world, including the Anhui TCM Expert Team: Fan Xu, Hui Li, Yinxing Pan, Zhiguang Li, Tongsheng Wang, Chuanshan Jin, Meiqi Zhou, and Tianming Wang; the Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Overseas Alumni Expert Team: Enqin Zhang, Ning Ma, Hongchun Yin, Bo Yang, Yuan Su, Lin Ye, Yun Sun, Haiyan Mao, Beinan Liu, Yifan Liu, and Kemi Cui; and the Xinglin TCM Expert Delegation: Guangji Zhang, Min Jiang, Aisong Zhu, Zhikun Zhou, Hua Yin, Yuejuan Zheng, Yuefeng Tian, Jian Gao, Nianzhi Zhang, Liangbin Cheng, Xinhui Li, Suiqing Chen, Yong Yang, Xiantao Luo, Jie Liu, Hong Xu, Runjie Zheng, Fengmei Qiu, Qinghua Wang, Weijin Yu, Yan Dai, Xinyu Dai, and Hanping Ji, as well as TCM experts from both domestic and international locations. During the conference, dozens of renowned TCM experts from China, the United States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and other countries delivered outstanding academic presentations. Attendees discussed the historical evolution and development direction of TCM academic and clinical practices, TCM diagnostics, acupuncture, herbal medicine clinical practices, and modern TCM research, presenting a high-level academic event. The rich content and fresh perspectives of the speeches were met with positive feedback and enthusiastic applause from the participants.

During the conference, in the presence of Qinghua Ren, Deputy Governor of Anhui Province, and representatives of the medical and health education delegation, Fan Xu, President of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Shulan Tang, Dean of the UK Lan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, unveiled the "Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Manchester Chinese Medicine Center," marking a further deepening of cooperation between the two institutions. Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Anhui Medical University, and the UK Lan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine officially signed a cooperation agreement to promote the research and application of TCM in the UK through resource integration and complementary advantages.

Cultural Gala Dinner - A Grand Celebration

The welcome dinner began with joyful music, with speeches by Shulan Tang, Dean of the UK Lan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zhiyu Yang, Deputy Consul General and Acting Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Manchester, Wei Zhao, Head of the Xinglin Pujie International Chinese Medicine Cultural Exchange (Beijing) Center Delegation, and British MP Ann-Marie Humphrey. During the dinner, performers presented a cultural feast, including poetry recitations, songs, dance, and Tai Chi martial arts, further enhancing the exchange and mutual appreciation of TCM culture.

Promoting Traditional Chinese Medicine and Advancing Global Dissemination

As a treasure of Chinese culture, Traditional Chinese Medicine is renowned worldwide. This summit, as an important academic exchange platform in the field of TCM, not only provided new ideas for the international development of TCM but also made positive contributions to the global cooperation and dissemination of TCM. With the successful conclusion of the 2024 UK Chatsworth House International TCM Summit, the path of TCM to the world is bound to become broader and more prosperous.
