  • 24-26.10.2024 Conference | Shulan College

October 24-26, 2024 Professor Shulan Tang Attends the 21st World TCM Conference and China-Europe Forum Professor Shulan Tang, Dean of LONDON Chinese Medicine College and Director of the China-UK Traditional Chinese Medicine Center, attended the 21st World Traditional Chinese Medicine Conference and the 7th World Traditional Chinese Medicine Education Conference held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, from October 24 to 26, 2024. The event was hosted by the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. The summit focused on promoting the spirit of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) characterized by "benevolence, harmony, precision, and sincerity," and aimed to spread Confucian medical culture. The event gathered 150 TCM experts from countries including China, the United States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and Germany to discuss the latest academic achievements and experiences in various areas such as TCM diagnostics, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and clinical practice and research. During the Chinese Medicine Education Conference, Professor Tang was awarded the "Executive Director Certificate of the 4th Council of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies Education Guidance Committee" by Academician Zhang Boli of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a recognition of her outstanding academic contributions in the field of international Chinese medicine education. Throughout the event, Professor Tang had the honor of meeting with many European Chinese medicine experts and had face-to-face discussions with Academician Zhang Boli. She attended his keynote speeches on several occasions. In his speech, Academician Zhang shared his unique insights on Chinese medicine education and academic philosophy, particularly his deep passion for Chinese medicine culture. Academician Zhang specifically emphasized that the cultivation of Chinese medicine thinking should focus on “reading the classics, practicing in the clinic, learning from master teachers, and developing intuition.” He used the "three stages of reading" to vividly illustrate the key methods for studying the classics of Chinese medicine: Combining reading the classics with practice: While the written word is easy to understand, truth must be felt and verified in the clinic, gradually leading to a comprehensive understanding. Perseverance and careful study of the classics: Studying the classics requires a gradual, step-by-step approach, until one reaches a clear and profound understanding, akin to a calm pond reflecting the sky. Combining with the spirit of serving the world: Reading the classics with reverence and integrating the spirit of "Great Doctors with Integrity and Sincerity," applying knowledge with faith, and gaining insight through time. During the conference in Paris, Professor Tang delivered an academic lecture titled "The Mystical Methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Treating Severe COVID-19 Cases" in the European Chinese Medicine Experts' Session. On October 27, Professor Tang, along with Academician Zhang and his team, traveled to Brussels, Belgium, to participate in the first China-Europe Traditional Chinese Medicine Forum. She also took part in the "Discussion on the Global Spread of Chinese Medicine and Health Culture," where she and Chinese medicine experts from home and abroad discussed the dissemination and development of Chinese medicine on the international stage.

Student Testimonials Dear Dr. Tang, The six months of study with you have been incredibly helpful and beneficial to me. Thank you for your openness in allowing me to practice diagnosis, fire cupping, and acupuncture. Without the opportunity to practice in your clinic, I might still feel inadequate. However, I have now overcome my psychological fears. As you mentioned, the next step depends on whether my skills are sufficient, but I am grateful for the qualification you have provided me to pursue a career as a doctor. If you are free, I would be delighted to welcome you to Beijing. Wishing you all the best! Yingying Zhu Diploma in Chinese Herbal Medicine August 20204 Yan Ge Diploma 2020 During my two years of study, the classroom atmosphere was always relaxed and harmonious. Dr. Zhou was incredibly generous in sharing his knowledge, leaving no question unanswered. Principal Tang, with her exceptional medical skills and benevolence, taught in a calm and measured manner, ensuring we could absorb as much knowledge as possible during each lesson. As the Chinese saying goes, “What is learned from books is always shallow; to understand something thoroughly, one must practice it.” This holds especially true for TCM. Drawing on my background in internal martial arts and Dao Yin techniques, and with the meticulous guidance of my teachers, I excelled in acupuncture and tuina (massage therapy). This pragmatic learning laid a solid foundation for my independent medical practice after graduation and helped me successfully establish my own TCM career. During my studies, I was deeply impressed by the teachers’ integrity and dedication. One time, during class, a patient came for acupuncture and cupping treatment. I took the opportunity to observe the entire treatment process. After finishing, it was already past 2 p.m., but the teacher, without taking a break for lunch, immediately resumed the lecture. I was both moved and greatly inspired by this. From that point on, I rode my bicycle from Timperley to Shulan College every day, rain or shine, never missing or being late for class until I successfully graduated. In today’s profit-driven world, I believe Shulan College stands out among many TCM schools. It avoids flashy gimmicks or exaggerated marketing and is genuinely committed to promoting and passing on TCM culture, wholeheartedly focused on education. After learning TCM massage techniques at Shulan College, I gained the skills and qualifications needed to start my own business. I opened a small TCM massage therapy shop in Timperley, which not only enriches my retirement life but also provides treatment services to those in need, particularly patients with chronic conditions. Currently, most of my clients come through word-of-mouth recommendations from friends, as well as some local takeaway shop owners and British residents. My original intention in opening the shop was to benefit both myself and others, and now the business is on track, allowing me to live a healthy life while earning a modest income. To those still looking for an authentic, traditional TCM school, I would say that in the UK, Shulan College is your Dream School! Shuokun Hu Diploma 2023 Read More

  • October 2024 Nanjing University 70th Anniversary | Shulan College of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

October, 2024 Principle Shulan Tang Attends the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine Image: Group photo at the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, China In the crisp autumn air, the 70th-anniversary celebration of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) took place with grandeur at the Xianlin Campus Gymnasium. The event welcomed esteemed guests from the world of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), including academicians and nationally honored TCM masters, along with a distinguished group of overseas representatives. Among them was Professor Shulan Tang, Principal of Shulan College of TCM in the UK, who returned to celebrate this milestone with her alma mater. During the ceremony, Chen Zhu, Vice Chair of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered a video message. He praised NJUCM’s dedication over the past 70 years in cultivating TCM talents of global renown and advancing traditional Chinese culture. Chen encouraged NJUCM to uphold its motto of "Confidence and Dedication" as it aims to establish itself as a world-class institution in TCM. Following his remarks, alumni representatives read congratulatory messages, and students and faculty spanning three generations recited a commemorative tribute, "Seventy Years of Youthful Spirit." In the evening, the university presented a thematic gala titled "Passing the Torch, Aspiring for Excellence," which had been meticulously prepared for over a year. Divided into three acts—Xinglin: Woven Heritage, Materia Medica: Pursuing Innovation, and National Medicine: Youthful Legacy—the performance traced the significant milestones in NJUCM's 70-year history, weaving a visually captivating and thought-provoking narrative. A special honor followed the celebration: Professor Shulan Tang’s portrait was added to the School History Hall of NJUCM Museum, recognizing her as an outstanding alumna in the global TCM community. Her mentors, TCM masters Wang Mianzhi and Xia Guicheng, were also commemorated in the hall. As Principal of Shulan College of TCM in the UK and a distinguished professor and doctoral advisor at Anhui University of Chinese Medicine, Professor Tang has made significant contributions to gynecology, internal medicine, pediatrics, and dermatology within TCM. She is renowned as a clinician and educator who has brought TCM practices to a global audience. Reflecting on the celebration, Professor Tang expressed her delight at returning to NJUCM, wishing her alma mater continued success in nurturing future generations of TCM practitioners. She shared her heartfelt wish for NJUCM’s bright future, stating, "Happy anniversary to my alma mater, may it flourish with even greater success and inspire students worldwide." The summit focused on promoting the spirit of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) characterized by "benevolence, harmony, precision, and sincerity," and aimed to spread Confucian medical culture. The event gathered 150 TCM experts from countries including China, the United States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and Germany to discuss the latest academic achievements and experiences in various areas such as TCM diagnostics, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and clinical practice and research.
